Michigan’s Cherries

We have Michigan’s 3.8 million tart cherry trees – surrounded by 84% of North America’s fresh water – to thank for 75% of America’s cherries. This deep red superfood loaded with antioxidants known as anthocyanins helps reduce inflammation, lower cholesterol and alleviate insomnia.

Try this Spicy Cherry Sauce on grilled chicken this summer:

1 cup chopped pitted tart cherries

2 oz dry red wine or vinegar

1 minced garlic clove

1/8 tsp cumin

1/8 tsp salt

1/8 tsp black pepper

1/8 tsp crushed red pepper

Crush cherries in a small saucepan. Add liquid and spices. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat. Simmer 10 minutes. Top chicken with sauce.
